Operations Infrastructure Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and configure Cisco firewalls and switches and Foundry switches and appliances; manage network routing and switching
  • Install, maintain, and configure Linux software packages including CentOS and RedHat
  • Install, maintain, and configure Apache and HTTP web services
  • Install, maintain, and configure Postgres database
  • Install, maintain, and configure Python based services and application libraries
  • Ensure server security and auditing functions are maintained and reported
  • Manage SAN switched fabrics and EMC SAN storage environments
  • Manage Isilon clustered storage and HP MSA direct attached storage arrays (NFS, CIFS, HTTP)
  • Manage VM server environments
  • Maintain DNS and Load Balancers
  • Install, maintain, and document HP Server configurations to meet the needs of Hosting Services clients worldwide (blade experience a plus)
  • Monitor and manage the data backup and recovery processes
  • Design and deploy resilient global communication interconnects
  • Enhance and maintain a Windows 2000 / 2003 network and Active Directory infrastructure
  • Install, maintain, and configure several Windows 2003 video encoding clusters
  • Support remote access technologies
  • Maintain an accurate equipment inventory and system utilization reports
  • Incident response and trouble ticket handling for issues impacting core infrastructure and services within the hosted environment
  • Provide and assist in the creation of documentation, policies, and procedures that can be shared with other consultants and departments within the organization
  • Create, edit, monitor, and react to system alerts and service or incident escalations
  • Provide reports on system performance metrics: availability, capacity, utilization, security log reviews, and domain audits
  • Design and procure hardware to support hosting systems and operational components worldwide
  • Participate in a 24×7 on-call pager rotation, and work nights or weekends to accommodate maintenance windows

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Create and enhance documentation to improve processes and procedures
  • Assist in hardware management of development and lab hardware systems
  • Perform operational tasks necessary to support FW and IDS security systems
  • Provide “3rd level” support for System Administrators or Technical Support
  • Up to 50% travel may be required to perform installation of new systems and maintenance at hosted sites

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or combination of experience
  • 4+ years of Windows 2000 / 2003 Server, Linux/UNIX, and Network Administration
  • 2+ years of operational experience in a data center capacity designing and supporting systems with 24×7 availability
  • 2+ years of experience with VM technologies
  • 1+ years of supervisory / management level experience
  • Firewall and security expertise
  • Backup and disaster recovery expertise
  • Process methodology expert capable of implementing industry best practices (ITIL, CMM, COBIT, ISO, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively in an independent role
  • MCSE, CCNP or CCNE, and similar certifications desired
  • Installation technician certification desired
