Partnership Will Enable High-Definition TV Service to Reach 38 Countries Using Existing Broadband Connections

London & American Fork, UT – CWI, Cable & Wireless’ international full-service telecoms business, today announced that it has signed a partnership with U.S.-based Move Networks, a global provider of comprehensive “television over the Internet” solutions, paving the way for a roll-out of IP-based TV services across CWI’s global operations.

The partnership will allow each of CWI’s business units, operating in 38 countries, to offer a high-definition multichannel television service transmitted through its customers’ existing broadband connections. To date, it will be the world’s widest reaching IPTV partnership, with a potential geographic spread across each of the world’s major regions.

Move Networks will provide CWI with an end-to-end solution that enables the delivery of high-quality TV services over fixed-line (ADSL) networks on which CWI’s businesses provide broadband. Previous IPTV technologies required networks with high and guaranteed levels of bandwidth, which resulted in numerous IPTV ‘no-go’ zones where existing bandwidth is limited – such as in developing countries or in challenging geographies. By partnering with Move Networks, CWI will now have the capability to reach, scale and monetize its IPTV services to its customers.

Tony Rice, CEO at CWI said “At CWI we’re on a mission to provide our customers with innovative world-class services, no matter where they are. Up to now, delivering television over a broadband network has been costly and bandwidth intensive. Our partnership with Move Networks enables us to remove these obstacles and develop IPTV services across our portfolio. It is an excellent addition to the leading mobile, broadband and fixed-lines services we provide to our customers.”

Move Networks’ solution integrates middleware, content management, conditional access and back office systems to provide a multichannel, linear and on-demand television experience, with no buffering or stalling, to any broadband-connected device. And, through its existing partnerships with content providers such as ABC, ESPN, and Fox, Move Networks has created a monetization model for professional broadband video that includes subscriptions, targeted advertising and pay-TV content.

Roxanne Austin, CEO at Move Networks said “We are excited about the opportunity to partner with CWI and provide their customers with a comprehensive IPTV experience. Not only does Move Networks’ end-to-end solution offer the power and scalability that CWI seeks, but it also provides CWI with a cost effective way to deliver TV services to any device.”

Move Networks’ technology has been successfully trialled by CWI with customers receiving multichannel TV services through existing broadband connections. The service has network DVR/personal video recorder (PVR) features, such as pause and rewind of live TV and video-on-demand offerings. It transforms the offering available to broadband customers, as the PC becomes a digital TV, and is expected to drive broadband penetration and usage.

The service could be rolled out across CWI’s portfolio – a target audience of more than 7 million customers – providing customers with a video service to complement the existing fixed-line, mobile and broadband offered by the business units.

About CWI Group

CWI Group (formerly International) is an owner and operator of market-leading telecoms businesses. Headquartered in London, we operate through four regionally-based business units – the Caribbean, Panama, Macau and Monaco & Islands. We are a full-service telecommunications provider offering mobile, broadband, and domestic and international fixed line services, as well as enterprise and managed service telecom solutions.

Our mission is to develop a portfolio of world class telecom businesses. Our businesses will be world class in terms of the products we offer; the service levels we provide; the training, career development and motivation levels of our people; and our financial performance. We aim to attain leadership in all of our product categories and markets.

Acquisition will accelerate “TV everywhere” by enabling a true television experience on any broadband enabled device

NAB, LAS VEGAS, NV and AMERICAN FORK, UT – April 22, 2009 – Move Networks, a leading provider of Internet television services, today announced that it has acquired Inuk Networks, a leading triple-play service provider based in the UK. Inuk has developed a next generation television platform, which builds on the traditional television experience, but opens new opportunities for monetizing customers with targeted advertising, converged applications and a unique PC/Mac multi-room solution. Through the acquisition of Inuk, Move Networks is accelerating the realization of TV everywhere by enabling television experiences on PCs and broadband enabled devices.

Today, Move Networks enables leading broadcasters including ABC, FOX, The CW, ESPN360, ProSieben, and Televisa to deliver live and on-demand high-quality video to PCs and other web-enabled devices with a fast start, high-fidelity images, and no buffering—giving viewers the highest-quality viewing experience on the Web.

Inuk’s wholesale IPTV platform can be white-labeled by any service provider or retail brand aspiring to deliver a TV service to its customers and the “igloo” virtual Set-Top Box application provides a multi-room solution for PCs and Macs.

By adding Inuk’s IPTV platform and virtual Set-Top Box solution for PCs and Macs to its video publishing system and adaptive streaming technologies, Move Networks is able to deliver service providers, broadcasters and consumers a true TV experience over the open Internet and closed networks, using a mix of both multicast and rate adaptive video delivery. This HD and SD video processing platform will be the most complete IPTV solution combining high-fidelity viewing, functionality, and enhanced features. Broadcasters and operators will be able to offer viewers an Internet television experience with high-definition video and no buffering or skipping, in a TV-like interface with features you would expect on a digital TV service such as immediate channel change, Electronic Program Guide (EPG), on-screen overlays, reminders, PVR and access to a VOD menu.

“Inuk’s IPTV platform is well positioned to deliver these new consumer expectations and Move Networks proprietary adaptive streaming and video publishing platform delivers an HD viewing experience via the current Internet infrastructure today,” said John Edwards, executive chairman of the board for Move Networks. “This means Move Networks and Inuk have the critical components in place to support commercial deployments.

“The Move-Inuk combination is a perfect marriage of technologies and business models,” said Marcus Liassides, CEO and President of Inuk Networks. “We will offer a solution that augments traditional linear-based programming allowing more consumers to experience television on their own schedules for a personalized viewing experience. We are excited to serve those consumers with a true two-way interactive television service.”

Inuk also provides IPTV services through its branded platform Freewire to the on-campus, halls of residence market at universities in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada. Move Networks is committed to developing and growing the Freewire platform, which will launches in the USA and Nordic region later in 2009.

GRAMMY’s and Grammy.com Join Forces with Springboard Productions, iStreamPlanet, AT&T, Move Networks for The Most Powerful Pre-Telecast to Date

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – February 9, 2009 – The Recording Academy expanded the impact of the Pre-Telecast Awards of the 51st Annual GRAMMY, aired Feb. 8, through strategic alliances with Springboard Productions, iStreamPlanet, AT&T and Move Networks. Together, these companies delivered a TV-quality experience for online viewers, the highest quality pre-telecast of the awards to date. The non-televised portion of the GRAMMY Awards, hosted by Wayne Brady and Tia Carrere, featured nearly 100 categories as well as live music performances. For the first time, the broadcast will be available on-demand for one month at www.grammys.com.

“As the number of award categories grow, so does the popularity of our Pre-Telecast awards ceremony. By hosting a live stream on Grammy.com, we’re able to open the event up to our expanding worldwide audience,” said Evan Greene, chief marketing officer of The Recording Academy. “Therefore, it’s critical that we collaborate with the industry’s best technology companies each year to improve the online viewing experience.”

The live stream of the GRAMMYs Pre-Telecast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles was delivered by iStreamPlanet in conjunction with Springboard Productions. With Springboard producing the content, iStreamPlanet managed onsite content acquisition; onsite encoding and transcoding; building the rich media player experience that incorporated adaptive streaming from Move Networks; content integration with the GRAMMYs Web site; and ingestion into AT&T’s Content Delivery Network for distribution.

Springboard Productions (http://www.springboardproductions.net/) delivers groundbreaking new media solutions at high-profile live events for broadcast, broadband, mobile, and IPTV. “Springboard consistently combines the highest quality with just the right technology to best realize our clients’ presentation goals,” said Hank Neuberger, founder of Springboard Productions and Grammy-winning producer. “Given this, together with iStreamPlanet, we lined up a stellar group of partners this year that worked together seamlessly to deliver a flawless broadcast.”

iStreamPlanet® (http://www.istreamplanet.com/), an innovator of digital media strategy, managed webcasting services, and Rich Internet Applications, fully managed the live and on-demand streaming media webcast. “Managing a high-profile event like the Pre-Telecast of the GRAMMYs was exciting for all of us at iStreamPlanet, especially as it came on the heels of managing the official presidential inauguration webcast,” said Mio Babic, founder and CEO of iStreamPlanet. “By incorporating adaptive streaming technology from Move Networks into the webcast and using AT&T’s global CDN service, we were able to transcend the unpredictable nature of the Internet and create a high quality viewing experience for music fans worldwide.”

AT&T (http://www.att.com/) provided its Content Delivery Network (CDN) for the Pre-Telecast. AT&T’s Intelligent Content DistributionSM service, a network-based CDN service used by media and enterprise companies alike, replicates information across the Internet for a better end-user experience. “The increasing popularity of the Pre-Telecast GRAMMY awards meant more people watching the event online than ever before so it was critical for the Recording Academy to work with a CDN provider able to perform under high traffic conditions,” said Roman Pacewicz, senior vice president of business strategy and application services for AT&T‘s Business Marketing organization. ”AT&T’s service works to significantly improve Web site capacity, reliability and performance, including the live video and the video on-demand currently available on Grammy.com.”

Move Networks (http://www.movenetwork.com/), the leader in Internet television services, powered the Pre-Telecast with its Move Adaptive Stream technology. a revolutionary transport protocol that delivers video with a near-instantaneous start, minimizing packet loss and latency by optimizing TCP connections. “This is the first year that the GRAMMYs and Grammy.com have used our adaptive streaming technology,” said John Edwards, CEO of Move Networks. “It delivered a TV-like viewing experience without the buffering and stalling frequently associated with Internet webcasts. We are honored to have helped enable a superior broadcast.”

As media consumption becomes increasingly mobile, Move Networks has worked to optimize the quality and multi-screen accessibility of Internet television. Building on Move Networks’ August 2008 announcement of support for Intel Atom processor-based MIDs, Move Networks is now showcasing its MID and Netbook-optimized user interface, making it even easier for people to find and play the Internet television programming that they want while on the go.

Meeting Consumer Demand for Internet Television Anywhere, Anytime

Internet television programmers and distributors can take advantage of the Intel-based MID and Netbook platforms to deliver higher quality and more engaging Internet television experiences to viewers across multiple screens.

Whether they are standing on the street holding a pocket-sized MID, relaxing on their couch watching a 56-inch plasma digital TV, or sitting at their desk looking at their laptop, viewers will be able to easily access and watch Internet television programming with quality that is similar to, if not better than, traditional television.

“Technologies from companies such as Intel are transforming television, turning it into a medium where viewer choice is never compromised by quality,” said John Edwards, CEO, Move Networks. “Intel’s advanced MID and CE platforms are moving us one step closer towards a world where television programmers and distributors can deliver high-quality Internet television programming to screens on any Internet-connected device.”

“Internet television access on mobile devices will increasingly become mainstream. As Internet TV shifts from PCs to always–connected mobile devices like MIDs and Netbooks, consumers will be able to access high quality content wherever they go,” said Pankaj Kedia, director of global ecosystem programs in the Ultra Mobility Group at Intel Corporation. “By bringing together Intel’s high performance Atom processor and the Moblin-based OS with Move Networks’ advanced Internet television delivery technology and services, we are providing consumers with more choices and access to Internet video content.”

Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Demonstrations (booth #7153)

Move Networks and Intel are demonstrating the availability of high quality Internet television on MIDs at CES in the Intel booth # 7153. Demonstrations will showcase a simplified user interface for easy access of premium content and high quality video playback.

< ![endif]-->—Move Networks, the leader in Internet television services, today revealed statistics that show Internet television viewership continues to climb dramatically, spurred by the growing availability of desirable shows and a high quality, traditional television-like viewing experience provided by Move Networks. In 2008, Move Networks streamed more than 100 million hours of high definition content, over 180 million total hours of content, and experienced 100 percent growth in the number of people watching Internet television delivered via Move Networks unique adaptive streaming technology (from 25 million unique viewers in 2007 to 55 million unique viewers in 2008).

Give Consumers a TV Experience Online and They Will Consume it Like TV

In 2008, Forrester Research reported that the number of consumers watching video streamed through a browser had doubled since 2007, increasing from 32 percent a year ago to 63 percent, and that 90 percent of regular prime-time television network programming is now available online. According to a recent study by Move Networks, this shift is even more dramatic for the college-age demographic, where 70 percent have watched television online, and 55 percent watch more than half of their television programming via the Internet.

Move Networks streams 60 percent of the most popular television shows and 11 of the top 20 primetime TV shows, including Fringe, Lost, Gossip Girls and Ugly Betty. The company also streams an average of 600 live events every month, including concerts, political conventions, educational series, sporting events with Fox Sports, the NFL, ESPN and more.

Bill Bradford, Chief Product Officer of Fox Digital Media, said, “Fox.com has seen tremendous growth in our audience since partnering with Move Networks to deliver our programs online. By working with Move Networks, we’re able to deliver the high quality, television-like viewing experience viewer’s demand.”

This recent survey of regular Internet television viewers points to the availability of a high-quality, high-definition experience as another factor for the rise in viewership. Move Networks’ adaptive streaming provides an alternative to the other streaming technologies available today that often interrupt the viewing experience with skipping, buffering and poor audio or video quality. In fact, when presented a side-by-side comparison of streaming video, 85 percent of survey respondents preferred the viewing experience powered by Move Networks, as compared to Flash streaming of the same shows.

“It all comes down to quality, to watching Internet television that doesn’t need to buffer, doesn’t stall and is in high-definition,” said Move Networks CEO John Edwards. “There is a growing number of consumers who want to watch their favorite shows where they want and when they want and on a number of different devices. Move Networks provides these on-demand capabilities without sacrificing the high quality viewing experience that consumers are accustomed to. Viewers expect to have a television experience and Move Networks delivers a TV-like experience, instant start, no buffering, high-fidelity every time.”

Internet Television Everywhere, Anytime

Move Networks will continue to extend its adaptive streaming technology beyond the PC and onto set-top and mobile devices, enabling content owners to serve the same quality of video on all three screens. In addition, Move Networks will work with device manufacturers and content owners to deliver simplified user interfaces for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and Netbooks, allowing consumers to quickly access high quality Internet television.

“The goal of the company is to allow people to watch Internet television programming everywhere at anytime. As we move forward, we’re taking it beyond the laptop to mobile devices, set-top boxes and even gaming consoles,” Edwards says.

Edwards says the push for embedding the Move software on other devices is coming from both consumer electronics manufacturers that want to serve up Move-enabled content, as well as from content owners that want to enable time-shifting and place-shifting across multiple devices. Move Networks will showcase examples of the Move Media Player being embedded on CE and mobile devices at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2009), Move Networks is showcasing a growing number of technology, distribution, and solution provider partnerships, to support Internet television initiatives of any size and scope in every market. As such, Move Networks remains the only Internet television services provider capable of delivering HD programming to any Internet connected device – from PC’s to mobile devices, Set-tops and Digital TV’s.

In addition, Move Networks also announced that it is optimizing its media player with a simplified user interface for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and Netbooks, allowing consumers to quickly access high quality Internet television whether at home or on the go. Move Networks’ will be demonstrating the new viewer-friendly Internet television interface for any Internet connected device at CES this week.

Move Networks will also release a beta version of an enhanced software development kit (SDK) for new and existing device manufacturer partners in Q1 2009.
