Highly Experienced Executives Bring Visionary Leadership in Television and Telecommunications to Move’s Pioneering Television Delivery Platform

American Fork, UT – January 21, 2010 – Move Networks, a global provider of comprehensive solutions that deliver live, multi-channel television over the Internet, announced today that Eddy W. Hartenstein and Solomon (“Sol”) Trujillo are joining the Company’s board of directors, effective immediately.

Mr. Hartenstein is the founder and former CEO and Chairman of DirecTV, where he pioneered the delivery model for digital television to be provided to millions of consumers worldwide without connection to a cable system. He is the recipient of a lifetime achievement Emmy® from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and an inductee into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame. Since August 2008, Mr. Hartenstein has served as Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles Times.

Mr. Trujillo is an international telecommunications, media, and cable industry executive who has held CEO positions in global companies headquartered in the U.S., Europe, and Australia. He served most recently as CEO of Telstra Corporation Limited, Australia’s largest media-communications enterprise, where he completed the privatization and led the transformation of a traditional telecommunications organization into an integrated media-communications company.

As part of the board, Mr. Hartenstein and Mr. Trujillo will work closely with the senior management team as Move executes its strategy to deliver the next generation of television service that combines a live, multi-channel television experience with the mobility, functionality and interactive features of the Internet. Move’s groundbreaking service provides a rich multi-media experience for consumers on their television, personal computer and mobile devices.

“Move’s game-changing technology uses the efficiencies and capabilities of the Internet to deliver to consumers a real television experience when and where they want it,” said Mr. Hartenstein. “Given the sweeping changes across the media landscape, the opportunity for Move is immense and I am extremely excited to work with the Board and management team to help drive Move’s strategy forward.”

“Move has developed a compelling business model that will deliver enhanced distribution opportunities for content providers and provide communications and media companies with an innovative TV platform to give their customers access to live, archived, and time-shifted TV,” said Mr. Trujillo. “By combining real-time TV with the portability, personalization and interactive features of the Internet, including the mobile Internet, Move provides the opportunity for a full multi-media experience. I am pleased to be able to bring my experience in the media-communications industry to Move as a member of its Board.”

“Sol’s wealth of experience as a pioneering network operator and innovator and Eddy’s deep understanding of and achievements in the television industry will be invaluable to Move as we focus on delivering the next generation of live, multi-channel TV over the Internet,” said Roxanne Austin, President and Chief Executive of Move Networks. “In Sol and Eddy, we couldn’t ask to have two more proven leaders in television distribution and telecommunications joining our board as we combine the best of real TV with all of the interactive and social features of the Internet.”

Before joining the LA Times, Mr. Hartenstein spent more than 25 years in the satellite communications industry and helped to establish satellite TV as an innovative entertainment programming and distribution medium. The Consumer Electronics Association and the Society of Satellite Professionals also elected Mr. Hartenstein to their respective Halls of Fame for his contributions. Mr. Hartenstein currently serves as non-executive Chairman of Sirius XM Radio and is a member of the boards of directors of Broadcom, SanDisk, and The City of Hope.

Prior to joining Telstra, Mr. Trujillo served as CEO and Chairman of US West Inc., where, under his leadership, the company launched a series of innovative telecommunications product offerings for its 25 million customers across 14 states, including delivering affordable high-speed digital Internet access for business and consumers, incorporating the first “plug and play” DSL, rolling out the first “one number” option integrating voicemail for home, mobile and office lines, and distributing digital video over copper wires. Mr. Trujillo also served as CEO of Orange SA, the London-based multinational wireless company with 50 million customers in 19 countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, where he was the first American to lead a CAC-40 company. Mr. Trujillo currently serves on the boards of directors of Target Corp. and Weather Investments S.p.A. Previously, he served on the boards of PepsiCo, EDS, Gannett, the Bank of America, Orange, SA, and Telstra.

Partnership Will Enable High-Definition TV Service to Reach 38 Countries Using Existing Broadband Connections

London & American Fork, UT – CWI, Cable & Wireless’ international full-service telecoms business, today announced that it has signed a partnership with U.S.-based Move Networks, a global provider of comprehensive “television over the Internet” solutions, paving the way for a roll-out of IP-based TV services across CWI’s global operations.

The partnership will allow each of CWI’s business units, operating in 38 countries, to offer a high-definition multichannel television service transmitted through its customers’ existing broadband connections. To date, it will be the world’s widest reaching IPTV partnership, with a potential geographic spread across each of the world’s major regions.

Move Networks will provide CWI with an end-to-end solution that enables the delivery of high-quality TV services over fixed-line (ADSL) networks on which CWI’s businesses provide broadband. Previous IPTV technologies required networks with high and guaranteed levels of bandwidth, which resulted in numerous IPTV ‘no-go’ zones where existing bandwidth is limited – such as in developing countries or in challenging geographies. By partnering with Move Networks, CWI will now have the capability to reach, scale and monetize its IPTV services to its customers.

Tony Rice, CEO at CWI said “At CWI we’re on a mission to provide our customers with innovative world-class services, no matter where they are. Up to now, delivering television over a broadband network has been costly and bandwidth intensive. Our partnership with Move Networks enables us to remove these obstacles and develop IPTV services across our portfolio. It is an excellent addition to the leading mobile, broadband and fixed-lines services we provide to our customers.”

Move Networks’ solution integrates middleware, content management, conditional access and back office systems to provide a multichannel, linear and on-demand television experience, with no buffering or stalling, to any broadband-connected device. And, through its existing partnerships with content providers such as ABC, ESPN, and Fox, Move Networks has created a monetization model for professional broadband video that includes subscriptions, targeted advertising and pay-TV content.

Roxanne Austin, CEO at Move Networks said “We are excited about the opportunity to partner with CWI and provide their customers with a comprehensive IPTV experience. Not only does Move Networks’ end-to-end solution offer the power and scalability that CWI seeks, but it also provides CWI with a cost effective way to deliver TV services to any device.”

Move Networks’ technology has been successfully trialled by CWI with customers receiving multichannel TV services through existing broadband connections. The service has network DVR/personal video recorder (PVR) features, such as pause and rewind of live TV and video-on-demand offerings. It transforms the offering available to broadband customers, as the PC becomes a digital TV, and is expected to drive broadband penetration and usage.

The service could be rolled out across CWI’s portfolio – a target audience of more than 7 million customers – providing customers with a video service to complement the existing fixed-line, mobile and broadband offered by the business units.

About CWI Group

CWI Group (formerly International) is an owner and operator of market-leading telecoms businesses. Headquartered in London, we operate through four regionally-based business units – the Caribbean, Panama, Macau and Monaco & Islands. We are a full-service telecommunications provider offering mobile, broadband, and domestic and international fixed line services, as well as enterprise and managed service telecom solutions.

Our mission is to develop a portfolio of world class telecom businesses. Our businesses will be world class in terms of the products we offer; the service levels we provide; the training, career development and motivation levels of our people; and our financial performance. We aim to attain leadership in all of our product categories and markets.

Ed Gubbins – Telephony Online | July 20, 2009

Two-year-old Move Networks is following an ambitious plan to move the telecom industry toward business models that finally monetize so-called “over-the-top” Internet content rather than let it cannibalize video subscriptions. The company’s downloadable media player authenticates existing video subscribers and allows them to watch some content online. But the company’s new chief executive officer, Roxanne Austin (the former chief operating officer of DirecTV) says service providers can go further than the free online models discussed today, ultimately turning Internet video into new incremental revenue streams.

On the evolution of Internet video business models: We’re at a unique time. We’re finally talking about getting paid for content on the Internet. It’s one of the reasons I came [to Move] at this stage. We’ve been talking in this industry for a long time about video on the Internet, in phases. We went from, “it’s all going to be free” to “it’s going to be user-generated content” to “it’s going to be professional content paid for by advertising.” Now people are saying there’s going to be video everywhere…

FierceOnlineVideo got a chance to catch up with newly appointed Move Networks CEO Roxanne Austin near the end of her first day on the job. Though Austin couldn’t answer some of the questions posed because she is still familiarizing herself with aspects of Move’s business, she was upbeat about Move’s market opportunity and chance to turn around the company after a tumultuous first half of the year. I’d also like to note that Austin is the first female representative in the FierceOnlineVideo Leaders series. I hope there are many more to come.

Internet TV services provider Move Networks has appointed former DirecTV executive Roxanne Austin as its president and CEO.

Austin, who also joins the company’s board of directors, since 2004 had headed Austin Investment Advisors, a private investment and consulting firm focused on new media and technology. Prior to that, she was president and chief operating officer with DirecTV and held various senior leadership positions at then-parent Hughes Electronics.

“Roxanne brings the experience, expertise and leadership necessary for Move Networks to help its customers define the future of Internet television,” Move Networks founder Drew Major said in a statement. “We are extremely fortunate to have Ms. Austin lead Move Networks and its vision to set the standard for a ‘true’ television experience delivered over the Internet as well as by IPTV.”

Roxanne Austin says one of her criteria for taking on a executive position after leaving DirectTV was that the new company had to be a “game-changer.” Now, the new CEO says Move Networks Inc. is in the position to change the game of how television can be delivered.

Austin took over the post of CEO and president of the American Fork company on July 13, replacing co-founder John Edwards, who took the title of executive chairman.
