Move Simulcode

The first step in preparing content for streaming, Move Simulcode divides the source file into segments called “streamlets” and encodes them using a single process for multiple bandwidths (dial-up, broadband, wireless) and platforms (computer, television, cell phone). A dual-pass variable bit rate encode is used on both live and on-demand streams, preparing images with sharp, HD quality.

The Simulcoding process involves the following steps:

  1. A live feed or a watch folder containing video files is connected to the encoder.
  2. The encoder divides the live stream or source file into smaller segments called streamlets.
  3. Each streamlet is assigned to a server that processes the streamlet and encodes it with the publisher’s desired parameters bit rate by bit rate.
  4. A streamlet for each target bit rate is output as a separate small file and stored on a standard Web server (no media server is needed) until it is requested by the client.
