Move Simulcode

The first step in preparing content for streaming, Move Simulcode divides the source file into segments called “streamlets” and encodes them using a single process for multiple bandwidths (dial-up, broadband, wireless) and platforms (computer, television, cell phone). A dual-pass variable bit rate encode is used on both live and on-demand streams, preparing images with sharp, HD quality.
The Simulcoding process involves the following steps:

- A live feed or a watch folder containing video files is connected to the encoder.
- The encoder divides the live stream or source file into smaller segments called streamlets.
- Each streamlet is assigned to a server that processes the streamlet and encodes it with the publisher’s desired parameters bit rate by bit rate.
- A streamlet for each target bit rate is output as a separate small file and stored on a standard Web server (no media server is needed) until it is requested by the client.
